Energy Star’s Most Efficient Window and Patio Door

ENERGY STAR is a collaborative program of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the United States Department of Energy that helps homeowners save money while also promoting energy-efficient goods and practices while also protecting the environment.

The distinctive ENERGY STAR® logo has become a seal of approval that helps homeowners assess whether the products they’re buying will save them money and energy, while also conserving the environment. Replacement windows are an important part of making a home more energy-efficient. Depending on the type, model, and age of your current windows, they can either be a source of energy efficiency or a source of energy loss. Did you know that even windows that are only ten years old are likely to be significantly less energy-efficient than current models?

The Science Behind the Savings Technology

Low-E Glass particularly designed to filter harmful UV radiation and the sun’s infrared heat, Low-E glass keeps homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. GreenEco Spacers insulate the edge of the glass better than solid foam or metal spacers. The temperature of the glass is improved with better insulating spacers. Vinyl Window frames are constructed with a complex array of components and insulation to help trap and repel unwanted weather.

For Your Home

Energy-efficient solutions may save families up to a third on their energy bill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions without losing functionality, elegance, or comfort. ENERGY STAR® assists you in making the most energy-efficient decision for your home.

When purchasing new household items, find the ENERGY STAR® label. The EPA and the US Department of Energy have imposed severe energy efficiency criteria for them. When it comes to bigger home upgrades, the EPA has tools and information to help you plan and implement projects that will lower your energy bills and improve your home’s comfort.

Considering the energy efficiency of windows, doors, and skylights vary depending on the region, product recommendations are divided into four climate zones in the United States.

Look For the ENERGY STAR® Label

  • The U-Factor is a measurement of a product’s ability to keep heat from escaping a home or building. The U-Factor is usually between 0.20 and 1.20. The lower the U-Factor, the better at retaining heat a product is. During the winter heating season, the U-Factor is especially significant. The U-Factor is displayed in US units on this label. U-Factor’s may be displayed in metric units on labels of items sold in markets outside the United States.
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) is a measurement of how efficiently a product blocks solar heat. SHGC is a number that ranges from 0 to 1. The lower the SHGC, the more effective a product is at preventing heat gain. During the summer cooling season, blocking solar heat gain is very crucial.
  • The amount of light that passes through a product is measured by Visible Transmittance (VT). The value of VT is a number between 0 and 1. The higher the VT, the more daylighting opportunities there are.
  • The volume of air leaking out of your window as a result of a temperature or air pressure difference between outside and inside your home is referred to as Air Leakage. Our labels state that the Air Leakage Number is less than the industry’s minimum requirements. Please ask us about the air leakage rating for your preferred glass package.
